Murray Smith Teaching Project
Being and Doing - Training and Teaching
Ako Pai Marae, Karori, Wellington
28 – 30 November 2009
Through the potency of the Name of the Best-Beloved, invite thou the receptive souls unto God’s holy court... - Bahá'u'lláh
This teaching project, dedicated to the memory of Murray Smith, will draw from the materials used in the direct teaching training that followed the regional conference in Auckland earlier this year. It includes study on direct teaching, role playing, teaching practice, reflection and continual learning. The focus will be on being and doing.
The programme will incorporate a memorial meeting for Murray on Sunday afternoon at Turnbull House, hosted by members of his family.
The core project is for 3 days, but some people will continue during the week, and everyone will take what they have learnt back to their own communities, share it and continue teaching there.
The venue is Ako Pai Marae, 29A Campbell St, Karori – the Wellington College of Education marae. The powhiri will probably be at 8.30am on Saturday 28 November, but that is yet to be confirmed.
We expect the costs for the weekend (accommodation and food) to be covered by koha from the participants (and from anyone who can’t come but would like to support the project) and as a guide we expect them to be less than $60 per person.
Participants are encouraged to stay overnight as part of the team building and support, so we can share morning prayers, and relax together. Mattresses are provided but bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, earplugs, and anything else you need for your comfort.
